Why This Site Exists
Mecklenburg County keeps people-related records in separate systems. The Register of Deeds indexes deeds, liens, assumed names, and marriage records. The Clerk of Superior Court maintains civil, criminal, estate, and special-proceeding files, while NC eCourts supplies the statewide party search. Land Records and the Office of Tax Administration connect parcels with owners, situs addresses, and tax-mailing addresses. The Board of Elections maintains registration records under North Carolina law. Birth and death services are divided between the county and state, and older directories remain in library and archival collections. We bring those official search routes, office roles, and access rules together.
What Readers Can Find
- Pages organized by source: public records, voter registration records, and local directories
- Verified local custodians: the Register of Deeds, Clerk of Superior Court, Office of Tax Administration, Board of Elections, and vital records offices
- Practical search paths: court party searches, parcel-owner trails, recorded-instrument indexes, and Charlotte Mecklenburg Library collections
- Access boundaries: what North Carolina Public Records Law opens, what another statute restricts, and how to ask the proper custodian for a record that is not online
Limits on Our Role
This is a privately operated reference site. We are not affiliated with Mecklenburg County, the City of Charlotte, any other local government, a North Carolina agency, a court, or a records custodian. Our role has clear limits:
- We do not retrieve, certify, correct, or alter records for anyone
- We cannot verify that a named person currently lives in Mecklenburg County
- We cannot erase information from an official record or an outside database
- We do not provide legal advice or interpret how a record affects a specific matter
- We cannot promise that every portal, index, link, or office detail remains current at all times
The office that holds a record is the only source that can confirm, certify, or correct it. Information found here may not be used for credit, employment, tenant screening, insurance, or any other FCRA-regulated purpose.
