This Is Not a Government Office or Records Custodian. Mecklenburg County People Search is privately operated. We cannot retrieve a file, issue a certified copy, verify where a person lives, correct an official record, or delete information from a database. Contact the custodian that holds the source for those services. Call 911 for an emergency. If stalking or harassment is involved, contact the appropriate local law-enforcement agency.

Where to Request a Record

Mecklenburg County records are divided by office, so the right contact depends on the document:

  • Deeds, liens, plats, assumed names, and marriage records: use the Mecklenburg County Register of Deeds routes listed with Mecklenburg County public records
  • Civil, criminal, estate, and special-proceeding files: begin with the Mecklenburg County court name search, then contact the Clerk of Superior Court for an unavailable document
  • Birth and death certificates: contact Mecklenburg County Vital Records; marriage copies come through the Register of Deeds, and divorce files come through the Clerk
  • Voter registration and election files: use the Mecklenburg County voter registration lookup or contact the county Board of Elections
  • Property owners, staff, schools, and historic listings: consult Mecklenburg County directories and the official source named for each collection
  • Material not posted online: request the defined record from its custodian under North Carolina Public Records Law, N.C.G.S. Chapter 132
